Camping Heater

Tent camping in the winter months can get rather cold on those cold nights. For my family I always buy sleeping bags that are rated for colder temperatures than I ever expect to be camping in. Tent walls are thin, and even the heaviest sleeping bags won’t protect you from the cold as you are getting dressed to climb into your sleeping back to got to sleep, or when you wake up in the morning. A good heater for camping can warm the tent to keep you warm and cozy. For safety reasons, I only run my heater when I am awake, as there are news stories every year about people dying from carbon monoxide from their heater. So to protect me and my family, I light my heater about a half hour before we go to bed, and I turn it off before I lay down to close my eyes and go to sleep, just in case. In the morning when I wake up, I light the heater again, while I wait for the family to wake up. They love the extra warmth for when they go to bed and when they wake up in the morning. You should always read the warnings from the manufacturer to protect yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning. Many heaters made today have built in safety mechanisms that will actually turn off the heater if the oxygen level in the tent gets low, protecting you and your family from carbon monoxide poisoning. This is referred to the oxygen depletion sensor, or ODS. I always bring a good battery powered carbon monoxide detector for an extra safety precaution, and for the heater that I use I have never had a problem. Many of them are made for tent camping, and have the safety mechanisms built in to the unit including ODS, as well as tip over protections to keep you and your family safe.
