Some of my fondest memories growing up was our time spent together as a family in the outdoors. Whether it was a day trip up in the mountains fishing in our favorite creeks and rivers, or spending a weekend out camping in the mountains, or at the beach, it was always a great time. I continue with our family traditions with my own family, as I travel the great out doors with my wife, five kids, and our son- in-law to keep the traditions going. One of the most important pieces of camping equipment to ensure is of good quality, and working in tip top shape is the camping stove. Whether you like to use the tabletop smaller propane camping stoves, or the larger free standing camping stoves, we will review the stoves that we feel are the best camping stoves on the market today.

Camp Chef Tahoe 16 Camping Stove
The Camp Chef Tahoe 16 is a three burner camping stove that was built for big cooking jobs. Whether you have a large group at camp to cook for, or a family reunion, tailgate party, backyard barbecues, this camping stove can handle the job. This camping stove has three 30,000 BTU burners and a large 608 sq. inch cooking area to give you the power and space to cook multiple items at once. There are also cooking accessories available, like the artisan pizza oven, or cast iron grills and griddles. It has a three sided windscreen that blocks the wind to keep the burners flame going strong. This is the ultimate camping stove for those with large groups to cook for, or lots of different types of cooking at once. What we like the most about this camping stove is that it has the wind blocking, but it also has a whole line up of accessories. This stove is the most versatile, when you add some of the cooking accessories like the pizza oven and the grill. This camping stove can do it all. On top of all that, it’s a looker, it’s a nice looking camping stove that will set you apart from all of the other stoves in the campground.
Camp Chef Explorer 2 Burner Camping Stove
The Camp Chef® Explorer 2 Burner Camp Stove delivers plenty of cooking power to cook for the whole camp. This stove is perfect for camping with the family, or added cooking power for your backyard hosting event. This stove delivers a whopping 60,000 BTUs over its 2 cast aluminum burners. It has durability in mind with the heavy duty legs that detach for easy storage and transport. Has a three sided windscreen to help stabalize the flame on those drafty and windy days you can encounter when camping. What we like the most about this camping stove is that the knobs are large, it has the three sided windscreen, and that it connects to a bulk propane tank. Connecting up to a large propane tank saves you money, and you can get it filled up each time before your tip and know that you will have plenty of propane for your full trip.

Coleman Cascade 3 in 1 Camping Stove
Take your outdoor camp cooking to the next level with the ultra versatile Coleman® Cascade 3 in 1 Camping Stove. More than just a stove to heat up your coffee or fry up some eggs, this camping stove comes with a cast iron grill and griddle accessories, so you can cook up a wider variety of your camping favorites. They are easy to remove, and quick and easy to clean up. This stove has 24,000 total BTU of cooking power to heat up and cook fast. The main surface fits 10" and 12" pans. It’s recessed carry handle provides easy portability. What we like the most about this camping stove is that it has the wind blockers, and it is unique and versatile allowing you to grill up your favorites whether it’s your breakfast foods, or amazing meats for dinner on the grill. It does use the small propane tanks, but you can buy a propane tree and hose to connect up to your larger propane tank, which I do recommend.
Camping Stoves Have Come A Long Ways
Today’s camping stoves are amazing. Most of them offer wind protection, which is a must. The shape and styles of these wind panels have really gotten better as well, so they don’t get in the way of cooking like they used to. I really recommend that whatever camping stove you end up buying, do yourself and your wallet a favor, and purchase a larger propane tank with a propane tree or propane distribution post and split your propane lines into multiple lines to run you lantern, stove, bbq, and more! That way you can plug into a large propane tank and fill it once before your camping trip, and not have to worry about buying a dozen or two of those small propane bottles. It’s cheaper, after the initial purchase of the extra hoses and the tank.
How Many Burners Do I Need On A Camping Stove
The first important thing to think about when shopping for a new camping stove is how many burners that it has, and how many burners do you need. Most people typically go with a two burner stove, as one burner is too small for multiple pots or pans. A larger family may go for a three burner stove, but typically the two burner stove is perfect. For my family we have eight people. We typically have our propane BBQ and our propane cooking stove going while we make our dinner, so the two burner’s are perfect.
Camping Stoves With A Grill or Griddle
If you plan to buy griddles and grills to add to your camping stove, it may make sense to go with the three burner option to make sure you have the room and the cooking power that you need to get the job done.
How Large Does My Camping Stove Need To Be?
Another thing that I like to consider is the size of the stove. You can go all out and buy a big heavy stove, but I like the medium size stoves that you can easily pack with your gear and not take up too much space. I like it to fold down so it is compacted and not the big stationary frame that some of the larger stoves have. Though there is a reason and a purpose for everything, so this is really just a matter of preference. Those larger stoves are extremely sturdy and durable, and put out much more BTU’s to cook faster, and to cook large stews and soups in really large pots for a big group.
Does My Camping Stove Need A High Number Of BTU’s?
It’s really important that the stove you buy can cook your meals when and where you want them. So the higher BTU’s that the stove puts out, and built in wind protection are both a must in my book. I have been camping waiting an hour for a coffee pot to boil. Due to the cold, the wind, and the low BTU burners that some stoves have.
What Options Do I Need On My Camping Stove?
As for options, it’s nice to have the push button start instead of having to mess with matches or using a lighter. Though I would buy one with or without legs, the fold up legs on my most recent Coleman Fyre brand stove is amazing. Before this stove I would place my stove on a picnic table in the camp site or a folding table. I can still do that with this model, but it’s also nice to be able to pull the legs out and let it stand on its own as well. I like having the option.
Camping Stove Griddle
Another option that my family really loves is the griddle that you can place over the burners on this stove. For this you can either buy an after market griddle that would fit most stoves, or for the Fyre line from Coleman they have one made just for it that is absolutely perfect, and Camp Chef also has some great accessories available for their stoves as well. We can cook our family breakfast on the griddle all at once with the eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage, etc.. without dirtying up multiple pans. It all just cooks separately on the griddle, and the heat is even throughout. My kids love it in the mornings because my wife can kick out some amazing pancakes, and cooking a lot at once, to fill this large group in record time.
