CATFISH CHICKEN LIVERS FISHING BAIT CURE
Catfish Fishing with Chicken Livers
Catfish will bite on a lot of things, the key is knowing where to find
them, and casting right on top of them. Chicken livers is the go to bait
for most catfish fishermen for one reason. Chicken Livers work for
catfish like no other. We also have a dough bait recipe that you can use
chicken livers in as well.
But using raw chicken livers, some like them fresh, some like them stinky rotten. The best way to fish for
catfish with chicken livers is to use a circle hook, and no weights. Find an area that has trees or bushes in the
water and cast the chicken liver as close as you can to them. If you don’t get a bit in five to ten minutes, cast
again a little further to the right or left and try again. If you don’t get a bite in another ten minutes, try a
different bush or tree. Sometimes they venture out from the tree or bush, so you can also cast a little further
from the bush or tree.
The Need for Salting Your Catfish Chicken Liver Bait
The biggest problem with using chicken livers is that they are not very solid, they fall
apart and off your hook, typically on the cast or as your bait sinks towards the bottom
of the lake, and you may not even know that it has fallen off so you are not really fishing
at that point. A cure for this problem is to cure your chicken livers with salt.
Catfish Chicken Liver Baits Recipe Cure Ingredients
Lots of Salt Chicken Livers Red Food Coloring (if needed to brighten up the blood color) Additional Scent (if
needed, 1 of these) Sometimes I like to add some garlic (salt, minced, diced, or oil) Catfish Fish Attractant
Anise Oil Do not put any oil based products, scent, or fish attractant in the cure until after it’s cured because
oil can hamper the curing process. I usually put mine in until just before I leave the house to head out to my
fishing spot.
Catfish Chicken Liver Baits Recipe Instructions
Open up your chicken livers and pour out the juice Put a few chicken livers in the bottom of the tub, or in a
ziplock bag, or in a small Tupperware. Coat the chicken livers in salt Place another layer of chicken layers and
coat with salt Continue doing this until you cover all of the chicken livers in salt Let sit at least overnight, if
possible, before use I let mine sit in the refrigerator because I like them as fresh as possible, but some
people swear by a rotten chicken liver for the extra scent
Putting Catfish Chicken Liver Bait on the Hook
You can use a treble hook, or a regular hook, but the hook that I found that works the best is a circle hook as
it holds the baits on better
Keeping the Catfish Chicken Livers Bait Usable
It’s important to keep the chicken livers from rotting even worse (unless you like to use it that way) so that
the catfish will not spit it out when they try to eat it. To do so, always keep the chicken livers out of direct sun
light for long periods of time, and keep them in a ziplock bag or tupperware type container with an air tight
seal. You can also store them in their original container too. This will also keep more of the stinky scent in the
bag or container instead of in the air where you have to constantly smell it.
Using Catfish Chicken Liver Baits Safely
If you added fish, meat, etc.. that can cause food poisoning, don’t forget to bring some unscented wipes to
be able to wash it off your hands after your bait your hook. Wipe down any surface or container that you
touched with the chicken livers, for food safety.
Magic Bait Catfish Kit
Magic Bait Catfish bait kit has everything you need to go catfishing. It comes with a
stringer, swivels, sinkers, bobbers, dough bait hooks in various types, and catifsh
dough bait. The perfect kit to get you started in catfishing. This dough bait has a lot
of scent, so I recommend bring some large gallon sized ziplock bags to put the bait in
once it’s opened so it won’t stink you out. It has the perfect amount of stink scent
that the catfish love, and works great!
Berkley Powerbait Catfish Bait Chunks
Berkley powerbait catfish bait chunks are perfect baits for fishing for catfish. They are
scented with a lot of mixed in catfish attractant scent, and they are firmed up to stay on
the hook better. It comes in many different flavors that catfish love.
Catfish Dough Bait Fishing Hooks
Catfish dough bait hooks are great for holding the dough type baits onto your hook,
and the spring in the center also adds weight to the hook which helps to keeps the
baits on the bottom. Also works great for trout dough bait, when you are fishing with
a bobber, it will force the trout bait to sink below the surface where the fish are biting.
