As a general rule of thumb, you can pick the perfect sized Prime Rib by figuring that you can feed two adults for each rib. If you have an eight to ten pound bone in Prime Rib Roast, that would have four to five ribs, and would feed eight to ten people. A four to six pound bone in Prime Rib Roast would have two ribs, and would feed four to six people. A seven rib Prime Rib roast would feed about fourteen people.

To make the perfect prime rib, we recommend: 1. Buy a bone in Prime Rib. Leaving the bone in will give you juicier meat with more flavor. 2. Use a Rub to put on the meat, rather than marinades because they won’t penetrate the meat deeply enough to get the result you are looking for. 3. Cook the meat medium to medium rare for the best flavor and tenderness. 4. Slice the meat to a medium thickness. Not too thick, not too thin.
How to Cook Prime Rib With Flavorful Crusty Outside?
Prime Rib is a fancy flavorful cut of meat when cooked right. It deserves a little time and attention to the details to cook the best prime rib. To get the perfect outside you need to pat the meat dry, and let it sit unseasoned and covered up with cheesecloth or a clean towel in you refrigerator for three to five days. Then pull it out and pat it dry again when you are ready to cook your prime rib and season it with salt and pepper before cooking. If you don’t have that long to prepare your prime rib, you can skip the first step, just pat it dry, season it, and set it in the refrigerator uncovered overnight or up to four days. How Long Do I Cook My Prime Rib?
A Prime Rib takes about 15 to 20 minutes per pound to cook. Be careful not to overcook because the meat will continue to cook after you take it out of the oven, or off of the bbq or pellet grill. The good thing about a prime rib is that you can cook the center to a Medium Rare, or Medium, for the perfect doneness, and the edges will be more to Medium Well for those that like their meat cooked a little more.
Prime Rib Cooked Just Right Temperatures
• Medium Rare — 110 Degrees • Medium — 120 Degrees • Medium Well — 130 Degrees • Well — 140 Degrees I like to remove my Prime Rib Roast from the oven when its internal temperature reaches 110 to 120 degrees. Then I let it rest for about 15 minutes on a platter or cutting board before I slice it up to serve.
How Do I Cook A Prime Rib In the Oven?
There are several ways to cook a prime rib in the oven. Most people use the traditional method, or the reverse sear method.
Prime Rib Roast Traditional Oven Cooking Method
For the traditional method you will put the Prime Rib Roast in the oven when the temperature is at 450 degrees. This will give you a nice sear on the outside of the meat, then lower the temperature to 350 degrees after about 30 minutes to cook it a bit slower to cook the meat all the way through. This is the most typical method of cooking a Prime Rib, it will give you a delicious cut of meat, but it will also cause the edges and ends of the meat to cook longer than the center so the edges and ends will be more medium well to well done depending on how long you cook it. This is great if you have some of your dinner guests that like the different levels of doneness.
Prime Rib Roast Reverse Sear Cooking Method
If you want the prime rib cooked with a consistent doneness all the way through, you will want to try the revearse sear cooking method. Instead of starting out with a super high temperature in the oven, you just let the prime rib roast cook low and slow at 225 to 250 degrees until the center reaches the desired doneness. Then you let the Prime Rib rest for about thirty minutes. Then you finish cooking the Prime Rib and give it a nice sear on the outside by turning up your oven to 500 to 550 degrees and cooking it for another 5 to 10 minutes. With this method, you can carve it up and serve it immediately so it is hot, juicy, and delicious.
Should I Season Prime Rib With Just Salt and Pepper?
Prime Rib is an expensive, and fancy cut of meat. It has such great flavor, that you do not need to add other seasonings. Though, you do need a lot of it on the outside of the meat, to give it a real good and delicious flavor.
How To Let A Prime Rib Roast Rest?
Letting your Prime Rib rest is an important step. Though it is tempting to cut right into it. Letting your meat rest will ensure that the meat retains all of it’s juices. All you have to do is move your Prime Rib over to a cutting board or large platter, and cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Let it rest for about 15 minutes, then slice it up and serve to your dinner guests.
What Should I Serve With Prime Rib?
The Prime Rib is what everyone wants, it could almost be served by itself. Mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, green beans, asparagus, roasted cauliflower, or brussel sprouts are some good side items to nicely complement your Prime Rib Roast Masterpiece. A nice addition to put some finnishing touches on your Prime Rib Feast is to put together some au jus gravy to put on the meat once it is on each plate. 3 Tbsp Butter 3 Tbsp Cornstarch 3 Beef Bouillon cubes ½ Tsp Basil ½ Tsp Thyme 2 cups water Scoop of the Cooked Prime Rib Juices Salt & Black Pepper to Desired Taste On low heat, add the butter to your skillet with the prime rib juices and stir.
